Welcome to the Fall Season at the DAF Learning Commons!

Welcome to the Fall Season at the DAF Library!

As the leaves change color and the weather cools down, we’re excited to share the latest happenings in our learning commons! Fall is a perfect time to cozy up with a great book, and we have a lot of activities and new additions to keep everyone reading and learning.

New Books for Fall!

We’ve just added a fantastic selection of new books to our shelves, perfect for the fall season. From spooky stories for Halloween to cozy autumn reads, there’s something for everyone! Here are a few highlights:

  • Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand-the story of a former Olympian's courage, cunning and fortitude following his plane crash in enemy territory
  • Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne-In Emmy Laybourne's action-packed debut novel Monument 14, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world―as they know it―apart.
  • Several Manga series such as Haikyu!!, My Hero Academia, Yuzu the Pet Vet and Full Moon

Storytime Sessions

Something I had enjoyed in previous schools is the chance to read to students. This year I have started reading to the library classes some of my favourite classic picture books such as Stuck, The Day the Crayons Quit, Those Darn Squirrels, Marcel the Shell and many others. Sometimes we read build knowledge and boost critical thinking and sometimes we read for fun and entertainment. Whether its' an exciting adventure, a mystery to solve, or a laugh-out-loud comedy, there's always something enjoyable to discover in books.

Card holders have access to nearly 1,000,000 physical items, over 30,000 downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, and movies, 20,000digital magazines and newspapers, and online courses. For a $5 fee you can access to all those resources and more and you  can even sign up online!

TPL has many exciting and fun events for kids. Follow this link for their website to check out what is happening next!
  • Lego Club on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. Snacks provided.
