**Welcome to Winter in the DAF Learning Commons!**

As the season of snowflakes and cozy reading begins, I'm excited to bring you all the latest updates and events happening in the learning commons this winter. From exciting book recommendations to engaging activities, there’s something for everyone!

Recently I had this conversation with a student.

Student: "Miss Vicki, I read this book at my other school and I want to read it again, but I don't remember what it is called or who the author is."

Me: "What was the main character's name?"

Student: "I don't remember that either."

Me: "What do you remember?"

Student: "That the cover was (insert colour here)."

As you can imagine, this is not very helpful. I can try to recommend the right book but tends to not help. They just can't remember without seeing the cover themselves. So I thought I might make a blog post and showcase some of the fine red covered books we have.

The Taber Public Library

I don't always have access to all the amazing books students want to read and lately I have been referring them to the Taber Public Library, with the hopes they will get a library card to further their readings. Card holders have access to nearly 1,000,000 physical items, over 30,000 downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, and movies, 20,000 digital magazines and newspapers, and online courses. For a $5 fee you can access all those resources and more and you can even sign up online!

TPL has many exciting and fun events for kids. Follow this link for their website to check out what is happening next!
  • Lego Club on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. Snacks provided.
  • Book Sale all Month
  • Craft Day Hosted by Eagle Spirit Nest Community Association Saturday, December 14 (Call the library to register)  403-223-4343

We look forward to seeing you in the Learning Commons this winter! Whether you’re here to explore, create, or simply enjoy a good book, our doors are always open. Stay warm and keep reading!

Warm wishes,

Vicki
